Asian Bodywork Program

For 19 years Lauterstein-Conway included Shiatsu in our Semester Two training. We have developed a very innovative and detailed intensive way of teaching shiatsu which partakes also in the practice of Thai massage. Our observations were, though students loved it, they often did not find the time or energy toward the end of the semester to master a whole new modality. So, for students' learning sake and deeper enjoyment, we decided to expand our curriculum and have developed a new independent program - TLC’s path-breaking Asian Bodywork Program.  The Asian Bodywork program in 2008 is offered in January and in the Summer (Summer dates to be announced).

The Asian Bodywork Program is a unique 50-hour intensive training with Randy Cummins and Cindy Anderson, two of our most inspiring and effective teachers. This class incorporates both Thai stretching and Shiatsu (Sho-shin). Students learn soft tissue manipulations designed to free the body, mind and spirit. Students learn bodywork involving specific sequences of acupressure points, passive stretches, tractions, and compressions to areas of musculoskeletal and energetic tension. Clients will experience dramatic relief of musculo-skeletal tension and pain, healthier posture, freer movement, and less bodily-held stress. Students will also learn, through giving and receiving work, enhanced self-care for themselves as massage therapists. Special attention will be paid to therapist’s mental attention, breath and balance. This class will give the therapist an additional massage modality that will expand their success in their practice through a deeper working knowledge of both energetic and clinical applications. This class will also give you the information needed to the answer the Asian bodywork questions on the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

The preferred prerequisite for this program is Semester One and Two (550 hours). However, we will consider applications from anyone who has completed at least 250 hours of prior bodywork or massage training.
