Complete Training in less than a year!

Programs/Course Descriptions

The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School provides flexible scheduling for the students' convenience...part of the reason we are one of the best Texas massage schools.

The 500-Hour Training Program for State Licensure and National Certification is offered in January, March, June, September, and November.  The schedules allow for morning classes, or combinations of weekeday, evenings and weekends.  Students complete a 50 hour internship during their training which gives them wonderful supervised practice in both basic and advanced massage modalities.

• Semester Two (for therapists with 300 or more hours) is next offered this May.

• Semester Three (for therapists with 500 or more hours) is offered this January.

Semester One Massage Training

This first semester of massage training provides a solid and imaginative foundation in the theory and practice of massage. This Basic Program consists of the 300 hours required by the Texas Department of State Health Services to become registered as a massage therapist in the state of Texas.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage forms the basis of the contemporary Western approach to massage. This course includes history, contraindications, body mechanics, basic strokes (effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration, tapotement and Swedish movements) and working with special populations (pregnancy massage, geriatric massage, etc.). Our approach is to be precise and thorough in teaching soft tissue manipulation, while cultivating mindfulness regarding the body, mind, and spirit of the client.

Human Anatomy & Human Physiology

Pehr Henrik Ling, the founder of Swedish massage, said "We ought not to consider the organs of the body as the lifeless forms of a mechanical mass, but as the living, active instruments of the soul." We take this approach to the study of anatomy and physiology. We consider not only the mechanics of each system, but also its role in life and the positive impact massage therapy may have on it. The systems covered include the muscular, skeletal, integumentary, cardiovascular, lymphatic, digestive, urinary, respiratory, nervous and endocrine systems. Note: For the purposes of qualifying for the National Certification Exam, 7.5 hours of Anatomy & Physiology are reclassified as Pathology.

Hydrotherapy

Theory and practical use of water of various temperatures, in solid, liquid and gaseous forms, for cleansing and vitalizing effects; also, students learn contraindications and the specific physiological effects of the various hydrotherapy techniques, which include: dry brushing, herbal wrap, hot and cold applications, and contrast baths.

Human Health and Hygiene

Includes communication skills, boundaries, ethics, professional attire, self-care, sensuality and massage, movement skills, diet and exercise, use of disinfectants, and precautions against communicable diseases.

Business Practices & Ethics

Basics of business philosophy, ethics and values-based planning, how to set up an office, bookkeeping, taxes, budgeting, marketing, advertising, and interviewing skills.

Internship Program

Students practice their therapeutic, communication and business skills by working on the public in a supervised context. The internship is an extremely useful preparation to becoming a therapist, as we learn best by doing.

Total contact hours required for Semester One program: 300
